Bushels of Beads

One of my favorite family activities for this season: picking apples with my boys. Of course I love the jams, pies, tarts, and chutneys that result. But there is something inspiring about the reds and greens of fresh Fall fruits. And it is with winesaps, pippins, and galas in mind that I created my October EcoChic Designs' earrings-of-the-month - Bushels of Beads. Think red chalcedony, green aventurine, Burmese rubies, garnets, and green onyx...all handwired with sterling silver. All one-of-a-kind. All made specifically for each recipient. These went out to my subscribers this week. I hope they enjoy them!

EcoChic Designs Earrings-of-the-Month Club

It's my kick-off month. And for only have hatched this idea this week, I'm pleased to be packaging up several subscriptions to my earrings-of-the-month club. 

Despite my usual feelings about Valentines' Day, I found inspiration in the roses I have begun to see everywhere in preparation of that mid-February holiday. Piles of petals and all shades of red and pink spawned one-of-a-kind pieces featuring recyled pink and red glass, Burmese rubies, cherry and rose quartz, pink sapphires, and glazed ceramic beads.

I hope the gals who receive these are pleased...I know I had fun creating them.

Juicy Watermelon Drops

Every now and then I come across a gem that just makes me swoon. For awhile I was enamoured with deep-sea hued kyanite, then it was bright pumpkin-y carnelian.

But I recently came across watermelon tourmaline and was instantly smitten.

What's not to love?! Watermelon + Tourmaline. Food and jewelry colliding. My mind immediately began thinking about what I would pair with this succulent gem.

One of the things that so appealed to me about this gem: it is two-toned, rich green and lucscious magenta. When I agonzied over which color to use - either pink or green - I decided that I wanted to use both colors to create this one-of-a-kind piece.

I handwired a deep pink chalcedony oval flanked by watermelon tourmaline drops and frosted Burmese rubies onto some repurposed oxidized sterling silver chain. There are some green glass beads where the necklace closes in the rear with a sterling silver toggle.

Lacrimi de Cristo Necklace

Lacrimi de Cristo. Tears of Christ.

Okay, so admittedly I am not a theist, but when I saw these artisan Mission-style crosses, I wanted to create some pieces for those who do believe, using in shades that are most often seen during this season; the colors used in the sanctuary for most of Lent is purple, red violet, or dark violet.

An artisan sterling silver Mission-style cross hangs at the center of this one-of-a-kind necklace and is handwired with rough freeform pyrope garnets, frosted Burma rubies, and round purple charoite. The necklace closes in the rear with a sterling silver lobster clasp.

I created this as an Easter gift for my mom, but have three other crosses and would be happy to make a similar piece for you. Please contact me for a quote.
